Danish classic
Smørrebrød
Open rye bread sandwiches that are so much more than a snack: three classic toppings for a Danish lunch.
Winter & Christmas
Leverpostej is Denmark's favourite sandwich topping – and at the julefrokost (Christmas lunch) table it comes warm from the oven, topped with crisp bacon and fried mushrooms. Homemade, it is surprisingly easy and far finer than shop-bought.

Leverpostej is a Danish pâté of liver, pork fat and spices. It is one of the country's most popular toppings for bread and in 1992 was voted the Danes' favourite sandwich topping in a survey.
At julefrokost it is often served warm, topped with bacon and mushrooms.
For us, leverpostej belongs to a long lunch with rye bread, herring and whatever the fridge has to offer – ideally after a cold winter's day by the water.
Dansk Cottage near Søby can be booked from spring 2027 – with a spacious kitchen for exactly this kind of dish.
